Writing
Descriptor - Style, correctness, organization
As support staff for faculty at Princeton University, it is extremely important that I am aware of my audience in every single communication I have with the people I work with. If I am emailing a faulty member, I must address them professionally, and be careful to be descriptive if I am giving instructions. In written commmunication, as well as face-to-face communication, I need to help my primary customers without appearing condescending. This is a challenge because many times the computer trouble is very simplistic and there is the possibility that the faculty member will feel silly if I am not careful with my tone.

PTC 620 Proposal Writing gave me the opportunity to address a problem we were having in my department at work. We have needed a storage solution for digital images for quite some time. The main project in the class allowed me to research, document, and propose a solution.

The Department of Art and Archaeology Undergraduate Representative rewrote the Undergraduate Handbook. I became involved because it was my job to place the copy onto the undergraduate section of the department web site. As I read through the document I found many typos and some inaccuracies. In addition, the forms in the appendix were poorly formatted in that they used underscores for the lines. I replaced the underscores with tables. While this document is not my original work, I offer it as an example of the type of work I review and edit.
