My supervisor, Susan, at Princeton University has long lamented the process she must go through to get a poster or flyer designed for symposia and conferences in the department. While taking PTC 605 Elements of Design at NJIT, I convinced (begged) Susan to allow me to try my hand at creating her fall lecture poster. I bought myself Adobe InDesign, as well as several "how-to" books and set out to learn. The results were well received. I now design most of the publicity for the department.

What started out as an assignment in my PTC 605 Elements of Design class, became a poster for the Department of Art and Archaeology at Princeton University. This was my first InDesign project and my first experience in dealing with a printer. I learned to calibrate my monitor as well as how to use the CMYK colors as opposed to RGB. I also learned to use the InDesign "package" feature to send images and fonts along with the document to the printer.

The following spring I was asked to make the lecture poster for the spring lectures as well. This time I had more experience and confidence and was able to complete the job much quicker.

At the beginning of the academic year I like to put out a list of the services I provide to my customers. We always have visiting faculty and it is important to me to remind our tenured faculty of what I am able to help them with, as well as introduce myself to the visitors. My PTC 605 Elements of Design newsletter project was due around the same time that I needed to put out my list. I decided to make my list into a newsletter format. I used InDesign with a master template to help me do a mulitpage document.
